This is the second in a series of articles that address the topic of pregnancy. Whether you are preparing for pregnancy, struggling with infertility, are pregnant and are dealing with health issues, are near the end of term and preparing for labor, or if you are postnatal and are thinking about optimum health, we have something for you.

Most of these topics are written for both the woman who is carrying a pregnancy and her partner as each is equally important to conceiving, growing and birthing a healthy child. The health of your child will affect their entire life, and generations beyond; there may be no more important job on earth than creating a new human being.

Is your plan to increase your family taking longer than you imagined? If you have been trying to have a baby without any success for 12 months or more, you may be facing one of the many causes of modern day infertility.

Did you know that it takes about 100 days for a human egg to develop, and 116 days for sperm to fully develop? A consistent course of acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine over a period of 3-12 months can gently and nudge your body back to balance, allowing you to become pregnant naturally. If for some reason, you do not become pregnant your body will still be in a much greater state of health should you decide to use the assisted reproductive technologies made available by a MD Reproductive Endocrinologist such as IUI and IVF.

So just what can Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine do for you?:

Influence hypothalamic function and regulate hormones – the hormonal effects of Chinese Herbs have been demonstrated in the laboratory

Increase ovarian and uterine blood flow – acupuncture and herbal treatments are used to increase circulation

Improve the environment of the endometrium – herbs and acupuncture both are used to increase blood flow to the endometrium which improves the quality of the endometrial lining

Inhibit uterine contractions – one of the functions of acupuncture is to decrease inappropriate contractions of the uterus

Modulate immune factors – herbs and acupuncture are used together to regulate the immune system, this immune system regulation is important for some who respond unexpectedly to the presence of sperm which may be considered “foreign” in the uterine environment.

Reduce stress – Acupuncture is supreme at calming the mind and the nervous system, and who doesnt need help in reducing stress, especially when you want to have a baby.

Remember, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal treatments are important for both the male and female partners in the reproductive process.Pregnancy
