Meditation for Calming the Mind

You may have heard about the amazing benefits of meditation, and you may have thought meditationthat’s great, but it’s not for me.  I don’t have the time, I can’t sit still, my mind is always racing.

The truth is, everyone can meditate, you just need to get started.  What do you think about starting with 5 minutes a week?   Do you think you can do that?  It’s all about making a pledge to get starting, setting a doable goal (5 minutes, right) meeting that goal, and then making baby steps from there.

So, what exactly are the advantages of meditation?  There has been a ton if research, here are the primary advantages:

  • Reduce stress, calm mind
  • Better concentration
  • Increased self-awareness
  • Increased happiness
  • Slows aging
  • Better heart health and immune function

OK, that all sounds good, how do you get started?  You can take a meditation class, either in your community or online.  One of our favorite ways to meditate is using an app downloaded to our phones.  With most of these apps you can set your meditation time for anywhere from five minutes to 30.  Some are free, some have a free trial period.  Download a few and try them out.  Try several to see what you like the best:

Insight Timer

You do not need a perfect meditation routine to achieve some of the benefits.  Just get started a day or two a week and see where that takes you.  Have fun.
